Virus Protection (How to keep your PC Healthy) Print E-mail

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” – The old adage proved true for us but unfortunately this doesn’t hold good for your PC.

Your PC is one of the most useful machines that we ever invented. Theoretically a machine should be able to run indefinitely and without stopping but unfortunately the bitter truth of life is that machines don’t last forever and they aren’t best left alone.

Even your PC needs tender loving care to protect your PC from the long tendrils of infection that carry viruses into your life. They don’t infect you but your poor PC labors under the symptoms and because it’s infected it won’t be able to do your bidding.

My grandmother used to say that prevention is always better than cure. The adage holds true even today and for a change it applies to your PC as well.

Whether at work or in the home computing environment, there are a few adages that you need to keep in mind when using your PC to keep it safe from viruses:

  • Don’t talk to strangers or in the case of your PC, never open a file whose origins are unknown. Earlier, this wisdom only applied to executable files, or files that did something. They have suffixes like .exe, .com and .bat and each can start a program on your computer. Nowadays, unfortunately, the new wave of viruses can be sent through almost any document and many email messages can carry and spread 'macro' viruses at lightning speed. That's why it is so important never to open messages or documents from unknown sources.
  • Never borrow never lend or in PC parlance don’t download games from the Internet, use borrowed disks and USBs and don’t visit the old 'bulletin board' services, hacking or serials websites.
  • Always lock the gate at night or in PC parlance Turn on the firewall.
  • Keep abreast of the current events or Keep the computer operating system up-to-date.
  • Replace old things well in time or Use updated antivirus software and updated antispyware software on the computer.

By following these simple guidelines you can minimise your chances of your PC falling and remains healthy for longuer.
